Most people like to say, “It’s the thought that counts,” but that’s not always true!

Gift recipients see your intentions. Yes – it’s true!  For example, when you guess at what restaurant they may like to eat at and buy a gift card to one that is easily on your way to the party – they see your minimal intentions (because they would rather you had thought of them and thus, given them a gift card to a restuarant they prefer to go to). Here are some other examples:

- When a giver buys a gift certificate, slides it in a card and signs their name – it's appreciated.  Although, when a giver takes a few minutes to write a personal message, selects a thoughtful gift to go with the certificate or wraps it creatively... the recipient is touched.

- When a friend buys a girlfriend a light pink shirt, yet her friend has never liked or worn light pink or pastels, the recipient sees her friend's intentions = it was a good deal or the giver liked it. 

- When people give soley to impress others – onlookers see their hearts.  (Note:  we all like to impress others with our thoughtful gifts.  The key is to be thoughtful while making your impression).

Always consider that just because you may like to shop and buy things, doesn't mean you always give the right gift.  (And recipients are respectful and often give praise over your bad gifts).  So, you have to think about what your recipient will  truly like. We have received several emails from receivers who hate what "good shoppers" buy them.  In short, just because you like it - doesn't mean they will.
